Does Fleshlight Discriminate Against People of Color ?

  Share

I have been scratching my head for some time over this issue. Let me start of by saying that I don’t mean for this article not to be some “ The man is trying to hold us back “ discourse. But it is my hope that people who read this will look at the larger picture and express their beliefs on this sensitive issue.

Fleshjack is the biggest selling sex toy device for men. It has been memorialized in videos across the Internet. Men of all colors have spread the praises to others and publications have featured it in many ways. This product has also gone through the process of extending its line by adding toys that are molded after porn stars. All of which have been white. At first I thought that is was some type of overlook that someone at the company might not have realized. So I sent an email to the company about four years ago asking for a mold that was brown. I am a man of color and would like to have a toy that resembles what I am used to having sex with. Much to my surprise , the company responded by telling me that it’s customers will not buy this type of product. And that they do not cater to my demographic. The translation was clear “ We don’t want brown money .” I was shocked and hurt. Here is a company that is making tons of money from the gay community discriminating against a section of it.

Looking back over the interaction brought to memory the struggle African-American publications, events, promoters and non profit organizations face trying to get corporate America  to see our economic power. Yet many in Corporate America view us in ways reminiscent of the 1960’s era. It is a shame because the gay community has been discriminated against yet we still have not evolved to embrace each other.

I don’t know how things can change. As one who sells sex toys, i can tell you that people of color spend lots of money in this lucrative field. My sister was the first in my family to bring home more than my parents combined just by having toy parties on weekends. Now that I have taken the same path, I see an enthusiasm from our community. We are in touch with our sexuality and want to explore it. We love knowing how to please each other as well as ourselves. it is a shame that the makers of Fleshjack/Fleshlight don’t get it.

They threw us a bone when they created the Misty Stone Fleshlight. As a person who follows porn stars, she isn’t the most popular in our community. Misty is great but I can’t find 10 brothers who are porn aficionados that know her work. I am taking nothing away from her. She has worked hard to get where she is. But if the company wanted to market to our community, they could have made a mold from Pinky , Vanessa Blue , Crystal Clear or Janet Jacme. Those women are icons. These women would could move product like hotcakes.

So I sit here trying to wrap my head around a company that doesn’t choose a person of color as the winner of a new mold. We have plenty of great talent that is recognizable. Does Diesel Washington, Castro, Anaconda or Tyger Tyson ring a bell ? Stopping short of using the race card, i simply have to blame ignorance. And this is not bliss.

What People Are Saying

" I do want to go on record and say that it is ignorance on FleshJack's part to think that a person/personality of color could not market their product. Case in point, look at what Tyson Beckford did for POLO Ralph Lauren. I remember a few years ago I considered getting a FleshJack for myself with the brown tinted lips. As soon as I went back a few weeks later to place my order, the option for a FleshJack that reminded me of me was no longer an option and it did discourage me from buying the product partially because if I did get one I wanted to be reminded that I am using a product that looks like what I am predominately attracted to in a man, his color. I am interested in a variety of men, but my sex toys tend to favor a black man in color/size/etc. I had no idea that they felt that the audience of color doesn't buy their product. Truth be told, it was because I saw a black man using a FleshJack on XTube that made me consider getting one. I don't know if you are still trying to make them see the light, but yes a person/persons of color as a spokeperson would widely expand their customer base, but apparently that is not one of their goals. I went to their website today and for lack of a better word, I felt as their entire product line is "white-washed". I may be wrong for that statement, but that is what I feel at the moment. In addition, I do still consider getting an IceJack from them because it's clear and does not resemble any color. Still on the fence about that......... I think I've said this before, but in case I didn't, I truly enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.

" Although I am white and do not use Fleshjack, I agree that it should be available in brown (or black) of that's what some people want, and apparently they do. As you say, there has already been too much discrimination based on race.  It's shocking that some people still have not got the message.I hope that you get the manufacturer of Fleshjack, and perhaps other products as well, to give full consideration to all ethnicities and races.  There should be NO discrimination. "

" I was thinking of replacing it [ Fleshlight ] with a newer model, but if this is how they view the Black SGL community, then perhaps I should consider a Tenga instead.  How do we make this company "reconsider" their decision? "
